Family Sponsorship

Reunite with Your Loved Ones in Canada

Family is everything, and the Canadian government recognizes the importance of keeping loved ones together. Through the Family Class Sponsorship program, Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their spouses, partners, dependent children, parents, and grandparents to live, study, and work in Canada.

However, proving the genuineness of a relationship and meeting the strict financial requirements can be incredibly stressful and complicated. A single missing document or error can lead to heartbreaking delays or refusals. At Alliance Immigration, our licensed RCIC experts take the burden off your shoulders. We manage the entire application process meticulously, ensuring your family’s application is complete, accurate, and presented in the strongest possible way so you can focus on welcoming them home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can I sponsor under the Family Class program?

If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident at least 18 years old, you may be eligible to sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, dependent children, parents, and grandparents. In some specific situations, you can sponsor orphaned relatives like brothers or sisters.

Generally, there is no strict Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) requirement to sponsor a spouse, partner, or dependent child, provided you are not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability. However, you must sign an undertaking promising to provide for their basic needs.

Inland sponsorship is for spouses currently living together in Canada, and the sponsored person may be eligible for an Open Work Permit during processing. Outland sponsorship is for spouses living outside of Canada, though it can also be used if the spouse is in Canada but needs to travel freely.

Processing times vary greatly depending on the type of sponsorship (spouse vs. parent) and the volume of applications at IRCC. Spousal applications currently take about 10-14 months, while parent sponsorships can take significantly longer.

A refusal can be devastating, but you have options. Depending on whether you applied Inland or Outland, you may have the right to appeal the decision to the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) or submit a new, stronger application addressing the visa officer’s concerns.
